Puppy Pens Can Make Your New Dog Feel At Home

Puppy pens are a very desirable thing to have when you bring a new puppy home. During the early years of your new dog's life a puppy pen can be helpful in many ways.
Often times these pens have a top that comes of and a sliding tray below to catch waste. You can find them made of wire mesh, which is coated with plastic to prevent rust. Some puppy pens are made of canvas-like fabric with a fabric mesh over the openings. Either type will give your new puppy a secure and happy place to stay while he gets to know his new family.

Any dog owner who has used one of these puppy play pens will attest to the fact that your new dog will enjoy having a pen of his own. When dogs were living in the wild they would naturally seek out caves where they could find safety. This was a secure place for them. For this reason you should never utilize a puppy play pen as a place to put your dog for disciplinary reasons.  The pen should be considered a secure place for him, as was the cave for wild dogs.

Adding a warm blanket, plenty of toys, and food bowls will make him feel like he has found a new home. If he becomes afraid the pen will be a place where he can go and feel safe and secure. His new pen can be thought of as a puppy exercise pen as well. You can contain him there but he will still be able to move about freely.  There will be occasions when you are away from home and the pen can be the answer where your dog will stay. A puppy is much like a child in that he can get into some trouble if unsupervised.

Start your shopping for puppy pens by thinking about how the pen will be used. Will you keep it indoors or outdoors? Do you need a portable pen that can be moved around?
After carefully considering all the factors you will know which pen is best for you and your pet. A wire pen is the easiest to clean up. If you find one with a tray underneath cleanup will be mostly siding the tray out and washing it. The tray will provide an easy way to do your cleaning. Often times these pens will fold down flat for easy storage.

The new puppy will feel secure and happy while he learns his way around his new home. Sometimes the adjustment period can be as hard on the owner as it is on the new dog.  Puppy pens can be extremely useful in housebreaking a new dog. Since your dog will not eliminate where he sleeps you can place him in his pen and have some peace of mind.  Locating the right puppy pens can help both of you through the transition.
