Greeting cards started out as being what we call Post Cards. The single card with no fold and it had a greeting or a message on just one side of it. Greeting cards were supposed to be published back in 1840's, that is the more modern day cards.

 The greeting cards today offer 3 different types:

    Handmade,  Mass Manufactured,  or  On Line

 There are allot of card companies still holding on in today's market, Hallmark and American Greetings are in the run for being the largest producers here in the United States.

 Although greeting cards are usually sent for special occasions such as:

•    CHRISTMAS                                        
•    EASTER
•    BIRTHDAYS                 

  That no longer is the case. We send these cards for so much more. They manufacture,and people create cards for simple things like:

•  THANK YOU
• HAPPY RETIREMENT
• THINKING OF YOU
• CONGRATULATIONS

  And so much more. I have even seen cards that are designed for sending to people that are from their PET.

  Creating your cards yourself on line, and printing them out and sending them through the Postal Service is a fun way of sending just the right one. You can actually put exactly what you want in this card. Add pictures, right off your computer. Very personal.

  Because of the fact that greeting cards are now offered on line, many people have gotten away from actually sending throgh the mail and save the money and send them via E_Mail.This is definitely putting a pinch on some of these smaller card companies. Also the USPS is taking a big hit because of the internet.
